School Leader Selection Process
High-performing and drastically improving schools are led by strong administrators. Choosing an effective administrator is often one of the most significant decisions school districts must make. Knox County Schools is committed to recruiting and retaining candidates that possess strong leadership skills, hold a passion for academic success, and a desire to create meaningful relationships. The 2024 initial school leadership application consists of two steps.
Step One has two parts. Part one is a preliminary application that allows candidates to provide written reflections on their strengths and areas of growth as a leader as well as grade level preferences.
Part two is to complete an official application in KCS Application system, Munis.

KCS Executive Team- Distribute survey to community and staff
- Consider survey results
- Candidates with competitive application submissions interview with the KCS Executive Team
Candidate
Recommendation- Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents review community feedback and regional lead input and make a hiring decision.
* The Superintendent reserves the right to transfer or reassign any sitting head principal to a different head principal position.
