  • A Message for our 6th Grade Families:

The first reminder is that 6th Grade Orientation will be THURSDAY, August 1st from 8:30 AM -12:00 PM.  School doors will open at 8:00 AM for this event only. Please note that this is different than in past years, and it is a THURSDAY now instead of Friday.  There were some flyers that were mistakenly sent out in student folders with the incorrect dates.  During this orientation, students will get a chance to meet their teachers, walk through their schedules, learn about lockers and agendas, etc.  A snack will be provided for students, but lunch will not.  Students do NOT need to bring backpacks, locks, or any other supplies on this day!  Additionally, our amazing PTSA will have a parent room set up in the library with coffee and light refreshments for those who would like to visit for a while.  Some of them will offer advice and suggestions, as well as reassurance about the transition to middle school.

Here are a couple of other notes just for 6th-grade parents:

    • On normal school days, our doors open at 7:45 AM, which is later than what you may be accustomed to in elementary school.  Please note that we cannot guarantee adult supervision until 7:45 AM since we don't begin school until 8:30 AM.
    • You are welcome to walk students into the building the first regular day of school, but please refrain from going with students past the front office.  We promise to take good care of them for you!
    • Schedules will be released in Aspen on July 25, but these are not yet final and subject to change!  We get many requests each year as soon as schedules go out, but please be patient until we finalize them.
    • Mark your calendars for Open House, which will be Tuesday, August 13th, 5:30-7:30.  We will have food trucks here beginning at 4:30 if you would like to grab some food, and we will also have representatives from various programs with information.
    • School supply lists are posted on our website.  Tax-free weekend is July 26th-28th.  Individual teachers may require a few additional supplies, but these will be communicated in the first week of school if needed.
    • I help with 6th-grade students as much as I can, but our new 6th-grade Dean will be Sara Dillon.  She will be your first line of contact for 6th-grade needs.  Her email is sara.dillon@knoxschools.org or you may call the school at 539-7732.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your students here very soon!

    Brent Glenn, Principal

All immunizations must be recorded on the Tennessee Department of Health Immunization Certificate. This will be required in order for your child to attend school on the first day. Contact your primary health care provider; Vine School Health Center at (865) 594-5078 or the Knox County Health Department at (865) 215 - 5000 to schedule your child's appointment.
