Excellence for Every Child

Welcome

  •  Welcome to West Valley Middle School

       Home of the Wolves!

     The Importance of Middle School
    * Rigorous math classes in middle school correlate with higher academic achievement in high school for African-American students.
       (University of Illinois study, 2009)
    * By late elementary school, students' ability to "read to learn" increasingly contributes to their overall academic success (Chall and others)
    * Effective intervention for students with learning disabilities at the middle school level is directly correlated with greater academic achievement later
       (Batya Elbaum & Sharon Vaughn)
*"Now is widely recognized that during the middle grades we have the best chance to keep students on the path to graduation and prepared for success  in college
and career.  These students deserve the best we have to offer."
Betty Edwards, Executive Director, National Middle School Association
*"The level of academic achievement that students attain by eighth grade has a larger impact on their college and career readiness by the time they graduate from   high school than anything that happens in high school."
From The Forgotten Middle by ACT, 2009

  • Treats for Troops

The WVMS student council has been made aware of the need for snacks for our troops overseas.  This will become a year-long project, so there will be multiple opportunities to donate during the year. The troops have asked for non-perishable snacks. These may include but are not limited to the following:  beef jerky, PB crackers/cheese crackers, individually wrapped Cheez Its (or any lunchbox items), applesauce or fruit pouches, gummies, blueberry Belvita bars (requested), energy/protein bars (also requested), gum or mints, hard candies (that don’t melt), graham crackers, gold fish, pretzels, and cereal bars.

Keep in mind, these usually take two weeks to ship. Make sure they cannot melt or are easily smashed.

These items will be collected after each of the breaks.

    Help support your troops!
