GT Coaches emphasize creating and maintaining stimulating classroom environments with academic rigor for our advanced and gifted learners. We work collaboratively with administrators and classroom teachers to create and share resources designed specifically for advanced learners. Knox County Schools is committed to providing opportunities to nurture, challenge, and develop the potential of high ability students.

Please contact the GT coach at your child's school or Daphne Odom, GT Supervisor (594-1731) to help answer any questions you may have about the opportunities available for your child.

Our Vision

The vision of the Gifted and Talented (GT) Department is two-fold. Our responsibility to students is to foster an environment that cultivates insatiable thinkers who persevere in solving problems critically and creatively within our global community. Our responsibility to teachers is to give them the capacity to develop and implement innovative, research-based teaching strategies for high ability learners through professional development, model lessons, and co-teaching.

Tier 1 Resources

The GT department has created a Canvas page to house Tier 1 resources for all KCS classroom teachers K-5! If you click on the link below, it will take you to a page to enroll in the Canvas course. This course will house tons of resources from vocabulary circles and HOT questions to tasks and tons of coach created resources for you to use in the classroom for enrichment. This course is in the process of being built, and we will be adding resources throughout the 2016-17 school year.

Our Mission

The mission of the Gifted and Talented Department is to support teachers in their efforts to meet the needs of advanced learners through intellectual challenges and opportunities. We will accomplish this mission through partnerships with teachers, students, their families and communities.
