Excellence for Every Child
FluMist Will be Administered on November 18
Although Knox County informed us that Flu Shots would not be given this year, they are going to provide the FluMist to our students this year. It will be administered to students Monday, November 18. Students will receive a paper form on Friday, October 18 for parents to complete, sign, and return if you would like for your student to receive the FluMist. Extras will be available in the front office, print from your home computer, or you may complete it online at the link listed below.
Please return these forms as soon as possible to your child's homeroom teacher so the Health Department will know how many vaccines to bring with them.

Book Fair October 21-28
The library will be hosting our Powell Middle Book Fair during the week of October 21-28. Students will be attending the Book Fair during their ELA classes. This is a great opportunity for students to purchase books they are interested in reading..... as you know reading is so important for our students to develop a love for. Therefore, our Book Fair will provide a huge variety of interest books. Please feel free to send money with your child to purchase books during this week. If you have any questions, please email our Librarian/RTI Specialist, Sue Bartlett, at firstname.lastname@example.org
New Online Payments for School Fees
Please click on the link to the left to pay your child's school fees online. Follow the instructions to register. Please note that this new software will be able to eventually enable parent notifications; where parents will be notified when new fees are requested/required by your school (i.e. Fundraisers, Fieldtrips, player fees, etc.). Parents do have to opt into this though. More information will be made available as we receive it. However, at this moment you are able to pay school fees.
Morning Drop Off Instructions
Afternoon Pick-Up Instructions
If you need to find your student's bus stop/locations, please click on this link. Bus Stop Locator Link. You will need to enter your address and student grade. Then click on the name of your school to find out the bus number, pick up, and drop off times.
The only exception is for students who live within the Parent Responsibility Zone (PRZ) of your zoned school. If the student lives within the PRZ, the parent is responsible for providing transportation. If you need more information about the PRZ or need to request a bus stop not listed, please click on the following link: Bus Stop Request Form and PRZ Information
If you have a transportation concern, please click on the following link to access the form to file a complaint with Transportation.
Please remember, that students are not allowed to ride a bus from the middle school to Powell High School, walk home, walk to a nearby business, or ride home in a waiting car at the high school. This results in bus overcrowding and liability issues for school and community members.
7th Grade Immunization Requirements Or New Students to Knox County Schools
Please click on the link below for new students to Knox County Schools or for children entering 7th grade. These immunizations must be completed and turned in to Powell Middle before a student is enrolled or attends the first day.
Children with medical exemptions must provide documentation from their medical provider. Religious exemptions require a signed statement by the parent/guardian that vaccination(s) conflict with their religious tenets or practices.
If you have any questions, please contact Health Services at (865) 594-3735.
2019-2020 Supply Lists:
Powell Middle School does not allow students to carry any type of backpack from class to class. Students may carry their supplies to/from their lockers in the morning and afternoons and hang the backpack in the locker. However, we only allow a string/cinch bag to be used to carry supplies from class to class. Therefore, all students will need a string/cinch bag, if your child chooses to carry one during the day.
An updated link to the 2019-2020 Supply lists is located in the margin to the left. Please understand that with new staff additions over the summer, some items will not be known until school is back in session. Teachers will be very accommodating and flexible to allow time for those newer items to be purchased.
Finally, in an effort to be more cost-friendly, we have tried to supply individual teacher names with appropriate lists whenever possible. However, please understand that when schedules are released in late July, some schedules might still change for a variety of reasons, which would effect the supply lists. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding regarding schedules and supply lists.
