Knox County Schools offers various opportunities for middle school and high school students to participate in athletics. Middle schools have basketball, track and field, and cheerleading, while each high school has 17 varsity teams competing in 12 sports. Each high school is a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) and has an athletic director who supervises and administers the athletic program.
The interscholastic sports program offers all eligible students an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that are a vital part of a student’s educational experience. Participation is voluntary and a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to the school, sport, other students, the community, and to the athletes themselves.
