Programs and Services
Special Education is not a location, rather it is a set of specifically designed services to help your child reach their maximum potential. More than 9,000 Knox County students benefit from some form of Special Education supports each year. When families work together with educators and specialists, it can significantly increase a child’s educational outcomes. It is with this in mind that all decisions about programs and services for students must be based on each child's individual strengths and challenges and must be made by an Individualized Educational Planning Team. Parental involvement in the development, as well as the implementation of the individualized program is critical.
If you have any questions about eligibility for specially designed instruction or would like more information, please contact your child’s school and teacher. You can also contact Special Education directly (865-594-1535) any time to be connected with someone who can assist with questions specific to your child.
