    Planning for the future of your child after high school can seem like a daunting task. It doesn't have to be, but you DO need a plan. We will help you get started with a few simple (free) steps. Our session will cover Special Needs Trusts, Wills, ABLE Accounts, and Conservatorships.

    Cindy Gardner, Attorney at Law: Cynthia E. “Cindy” Gardner is Managing Partner in the Special Needs Law Center, Maurer & Gardner, PLLC. The firm practices exclusively in the area of Conservatorships, Special Needs Trusts, Wills, and SSI eligibility for families of individuals with disabilities throughout the entire state of Tennessee. Prior to forming this firm with Ed Maurer, Cindy was Senior Staff Attorney at Disability Law & Advocacy Center of Tennessee, where she handled cases related to Special Education, ADA Employment Discrimination, Social Security and Vocational Rehabilitation. She attended law school at Oklahoma City University College of Law while owning/ operating a restaurant which employed young adults with intellectual impairments. She has been a lawyer for 25 years.

    The Next Steps Transition Conference will provide you with information and tools to help support a successful transition from high school into adulthood. Our goal on this day is to give you access to important information, financial planning, vocational and post-secondary opportunities, college tips and so much more!

    Schedule of events:

    7-8am Vendor registration and setup

    8-9am Breakfast, parent/student/teacher registration

    9-9:15am Welcome

    9:15-10am Keynote Speaker Wendy Besmann

    10:10-11am Breakout Session 1

    11-11:10am Break

    11:10am-12pm Breakout Session 2

    12-1pm Lunch

    1:10-2pm Breakout Session 3

    2-2:10pm Break

    2:10-3pm Final Session and door prize drawing

    Throughout the conference, the Mobile American Job Center will be available for use.

    Also, the State of Tennessee Driver Services' Mobile ID Unit will be present to make photo ID's and administer permit tests (attendees must bring required documentation, and standard fees will apply).
