• Kindergarten

    As of the 2014-15 school year, a child entering kindergarten shall be no less than five (5) years of age on or before August 15 to enter school for the upcoming school year and any year thereafter.  Any child legally enrolled in an approved kindergarten during the preceding school year, who could have enrolled in the first grade in the current school year and who makes application for admission, shall be enrolled in the first grade if he/she is six (6) years of age by September 30 of the current school year.

    No child shall be eligible to enter first grade without having attended an approved kindergarten program. 

    What do I need to bring to register my child for kindergarten?

    • A birth certificate or officially acceptable proof of birth date
    • Proof of up-to-date immunizations and a health/physical examination, recorded on a Tennessee School Immunization Certificate which may be obtained from a health care provider or Health Department. The health/physical examination must have been completed by a medical provider within the past 12 months prior to the first day of school. A student may be enrolled without this information but must file the form with the school within 30 calendar days or risk dismissal. 
    • Current Proof of residency within the school zone


    Kindergarten Round-Up

    Kindergarten Roundup will be held the week of April 9, 2024 (see the full schedule) at all KCS elementary schools for the 2024-25 school year. If you are new to Knox County, have moved since the round-up, or missed the round-up, please contact your local school.
