Research, Evaluation, and Assessment (REA) is a multi-faceted team that serves the district. The REA department is comprised of the Supervisor of Research and Evaluation, the Supervisor of Assessment, a senior data analyst, a data analyst, and an accountability specialist. The department is responsible for state accountability measures, administration of all district-wide assessments, program evaluation, researching curricular data, communicating data to appropriate stakeholders across the district, and providing its analytical expertise to assist school leaders in making student-centered, data-driven decisions. In addition to these responsibilities, the REA team also serves as the gateway for external organizations requesting access to data from the Knox County Schools to include in third-party research.
***COVID-19 Proceedure Update***
Due to the COVID-19 emergency, active data collection associated with external research is currently paused as campuses are closed for an indefinite amount of time. The capacity to participate in research activities will also be limited when students and staff return to campus locations at a future date. Concerns include the safety of students and staff as well as atypical contexts affecting data collection and research validity.
Thru September 30, 2020, Researchers should prioritize projects that may be accomplished with data collected at the district level. Applications requesting active data collection will not be accepted (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, etc.). We understand that this may limit some projects and/or require study plans to be reconfigured. This policy will be revisited after October 1, 2020, and any changes will be documented on this website.
The Research Committee meets the second Monday of each month to discuss research requests. We will consider any requests received by the Monday prior to this day. Please read the Regulations and Procedures for Conducting Research in Knox County for more information. Send all research requests to Beth Boston, Assessment Specialist at email@example.com.Document to download in Word Format: Regulations and Procedures for Conducting Research in Knox County.docx
