Central High School Students Establish Emma Walker Memorial Scholarship
Date: 12/8/2016
News Release Number: 16-112
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 8, 2016 – Members of the Central High School Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club and cheerleading team have established a memorial scholarship in honor of fellow student Emma Walker.
The two groups have already raised $1,100, thanks in large part from selling biscuits donated by the Fountain City Chick-fil-A. The school hopes to bring in enough money to it can offer a scholarship every year.
“Emma was an outstanding young lady and an excellent student,” Central High School Principal Michael Reynolds said. “Our goal is to generate enough funds to establish a long-term, annual scholarship to be given in Emma’s memory.”
The scholarship will be available to graduating high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA and required community service hours. The student must enroll in an accredited public or private, not-for-profit college or university in Tennessee to study in a medical or healthcare related field.
Walker had expressed an interest in working as a neonatal nurse.
