Jannice Clark Named National Teacher of the Year by Simon Youth Foundation

Jannice Clark, a mathematics teacher at the Dr. Paul L. Kelley Volunteer Academy, was recently named the 2014 Simon Youth Foundation National Teacher of the Year. The award was presented November 2, 2014, at the Simon Youth Foundation Annual Conference /National Dropout Prevention Conference.

 

Clark has been an educator in the Knox County Schools for 31 years, six of those at Kelley Volunteer Academy. In recognition of her exemplary service to students, she received a $1,000 gift from the Simon Youth Foundation and will be a featured speaker on best practices in a non-traditional setting at the 2015 National Dropout Prevention Conference.

 

“I was very honored to receive this award and very surprised,” Clark said. “Really, this award should go to all of the teachers at Kelley because they totally embrace this student body and are committed to helping them visualize a brighter future. I am extremely fortunate to work with such dedicated professionals.”

 

Kelley Volunteer Academy is a non-traditional high school serving approximately 250 students in grades 11 and 12 who represent all high schools in the Knox County Schools. The school provides a unique pathway to success for students who need a non-traditional setting in which to thrive. The mission of the academy is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for students to learn, grow and advance both socially and academically through individualized educational programs, career initiatives and community partnerships. The academy is located within Knoxville Center Mall, a Simon property, 3001 Knoxville Center Drive.

 

The Simon Youth Foundation exists to help at-risk students graduate. Through partnering with local school districts in 13 states, Simon Youth Foundation advocates, creates and initiates educational opportunities for students. In the past 16 years, Simon Youth Foundation has awarded more than $11 million in scholarships.
