KCS Celebrates Mill Creek Ribbon-Cutting

Knox County Schools on Tuesday celebrated a ribbon-cutting for the completion of Mill Creek Elementary.

The school, located on Coward Mill Road in West Knox County, opened in Phase 1 last year for kindergarten through 2nd grade. The completed school will open to kindergarten through 5th grade students for the 2024-25 school year, and will include a total of 124,000 square feet with a capacity of 1,200 students.

The project includes the following features:

  • 124,000 square feet;
  • Capacity of 1,200 students;
  • 56 classrooms;
  • Three teacher work areas;
  • A special education suite;
  • A gymnasium and stage;
  • A storm shelter;
  • Two playgrounds;
  • Two music rooms;
  • Two art rooms; and
  • A media center.


“The Hardin Valley-Karns corridor is one of the fastest-growing parts of our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk. “This school will be a pillar of the community for years to come, and I’m grateful for the hard work of our facilities team and the Mill Creek staff – led by Dr. Sunny Scheafnocker – to make it a success.”
