Filling for Principals' Vacanies
Administrative positons are some of the most important roles we have at Knox County Schools and our hope is fill any open positions with the best candidates possible. Below is the process for filling all three school-based administrative roles.
Principal
Phase 1 - Job Posting
Any principal vacancy from the end of school to before July 1st will be posted for a min 5 days. Any principal vacancy after July 1st or during the school year will be posted for 3 days All candidates must apply for consideration. Candidates that do not apply will not be given consideration unless otherwise directed by the superintendent.
Phase 2 - Pre-Interview Scoring
Needs Assessment Conducted on Schools.
Electronic Parent Survey.
Electronic Staff Survey.
Interview Panel Established consisting of Ex.Dir HR, appropriate HR supervisor, Grade Level Director and appropriate supervisor, Chief of Staff, and Instructional Representative.
Phase 3 - Interview
Top 3-5 Candidates from Pre-Interview Scoring will be selected for interview with interview panel. Interview panel will develop interview protocol questions. Interview will be timed and format will be consistant Interviewers will score interviews. Scores are tallied and the Top 1-2 Candidates will be recommended to superintendent for review.
Phase 4 - Interview by Superintendent and Job Offer
The Top 1-2 Candidates are interview by the Superintendent. Superintendent extends the offer to the successful candidate.
Assistant Principal
Phase 1 - Pool Posting
A generic Assistant Principal Candidate pool posting will be open 3 times a year for 5 days each time. These postings will occur at least three times during the year (November, February, and July).
Phase 2 - Pre-Screening Scoring
Candidates will be scored using the AP Pre-Screening Scoring. Top 10 candidates from will advance to the panel screening.
Phase 3 - Screening Interview
Interview Panel Established consisting of Appropriate HR supervisor, Grade Level Director and appropriate supervisor, and Instructional Representative. Interview panel will develop interview protocol questions. Interview will be timed and format will be consistant. Interviewers will score interviews. The top 3 candidates for each grade level will be presented to Principals with vacancies.
Phase 4 - AP Vacancy Posted
Any Assistant Principal vacancy from the end of school to before July 1st will be posted for 5 days. Any Assistant Principal vacancy after July 1st or during the school year will be posted for 3 days. All candidates must apply for consideration. Candidates that do not apply will not be given consideration unless otherwise directed by the Superintendent
Phase 5 - Principal Interview
The principal will interview the 3 names provided from the screening process. The principal may also interview sitting Assistant Principals or Administrative Assistants that have applied to the posting.
Phase 6 - Job Offer
Assistant Principal selection is approved by Superintendent. Executive Director of HR offers to successful candidate.
Administrative Assistant
Phase 1 - Pool Posting
