• Instructional Standards

The American Association of School Librarians released new standards called the National School Library Standards (NSLS) in November 2018.  They contain standards for learners, librarians, and libraries.

The Library Media Services Department will be integrating the standards over a three-year period.  Year 1, which is the 2018-2019 school year, will consist of applying the learner standards to lessons that are based on the former AASL standards.  Librarians may choose to operate entirely from the new standards, but they are encouraged to blend the former standards and the current standards throughout the implementation phases in order to learn at a pace that will provide them with firm foundations.

During year 2, 2019-2020, librarians should use the NSLS for every lesson they teach.
