If I don’t opt-in, will I get any automated communication from my child’s school and/or the district?
Yes, you will continue to receive emails (if you have provided a valid email address to your child’s school). You will also get any phone calls labled as “emergency” calls that would include inclement weather closings/delays/cancellations, security alerts, transportation news.
If I don’t have internet access, how do I opt-in?
All KCS school offices are supplied with paper opt-in forms. Please visit your child’s school office in-person and fill out the form while there. The office staff will opt you in. You can also print the opt-in form from our “Resources” section on this page, fill it out and take it to your child’s school.
How does SchoolMessenger get my phone number/email address?
SchoolMessenger pulls data from our student information system called Aspen. It has the same contact information you see in KCS Family Portal. The numbers that are pulled into SchoolMessenger are the numbers listed as home phone and cell phone for each parent/guardian. The emails pulled into SchoolMessenger are the primary email addresses listed for each parent/guardian.
Can I add more phone numbers and/or email addresses to SchoolMessenger?
To make any changes to contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses, please contact your child’s school office.
What if I’m already opted-in and I get a new mobile phone number?
First, contact your child’s school and give them your new number. The next day, you should be able to log into your self-created SchoolMessenger InfoCenter account and opt-in for that number.
I have multiple children at multiple Knox County schools, do I have to opt-in for each of my children?
No, once the specific mobile number is opted-in, it will apply to all children you have enrolled in Knox County Schools.
When I log into my InfoCenter account, I see other emails and phones numbers besides my own. Why is this?
SchoolMessenger accounts are tied to individual students. Therefore, when you log in, you will see all email addresses and phone numbers for any Parent/Guardian attached to that student.
How do I sign up for text messages to my mobile device?
Text YES to 67587. If your cell phone number is in our system, you will begin receiving text messages from your child’s school as well as the KCS district.
