The Knox County Board of Education has narrowed the list of superintendent candidates to six. They include:
is currently serving as Superintendent of Schools for three combined districts in New Jersey. Prior to that she served eight years as Superintendent for Russel Independent Schools, during the last of which the district was recognized as a distinguished and high performing and as one of the top three school systems in Kentucky.
currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer of Leon County Public Schools, which achieved a graduation rate of 92%. Prior to serving Leon County Public Schools, his experience spans 24 years in Broward County, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida—the sixth largest school system in the United States.
Dale P. Lynch
is the Superintendent of Schools for Hamblen County in Morristown, Tenn. He’s been serving in that capacity since 2001. Prior to that he served as both Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in Elizabethton and as an administrator, middle and high school teacher and coach in Washington County, Tenn.
has served as Assistant Superintendent for Knox County Schools since 1990. He currently oversees charter school applications, implementation of the new payroll system and assists with human resources cases. He previously directed the transportation, finance, human resources and facilities departments. Early in his career he taught at Bearden Junior High, Bearden High and Rule High School.
Duran O’Brian Williams
is currently serving as field director of the East Tennessee office of the Tennessee Education Association. Before joining the state’s teacher union staff, he was a principal in the Cocke County school district.
is currently serving as the interim Chief Academic Officer for Knox County Schools. Prior to taking the position, he served for two years as the founding principal of Emerald Academy, a charter school. He also previously served as supervisor of secondary education, executive director of innovation and school improvement, principal of Fulton High School and a high school biology teacher.
The Board’s Superintendent Search Committee, comprised of Board Vice Chair Amber Rountree, District 3 representative Tony Norman and District 5 representative Susan Horn, will meet later this month to further review the list of candidates.
