IB Exam Session: May 2025

WHAT ARE THE IB CP AND THE IB DP?

  •

As 11th and 12th graders at West High School, students can continue their IB studies by taking individual IB courses or participating in either the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP).

West High School is proud to offer multiple options for 11th and 12th grade students seeking to participate in International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes. The IB Diploma (DP) and IB Career-related (CP) Programmes offer advanced studies that demand the best from motivated students. IB students study a broad range of subjects and engage in research and experiential learning through school, community, and international activities. Since its founding over fifty years ago, IB has become a symbol of academic integrity and intellectual promise, recognized by leading universities in the United States and throughout the world.

West High School's IB Diploma Programme (DP), authorized in 2011, aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge—students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The DP curriculum consists of six subject groups and three other core requirements: two years of theory of knowledge (TOK) amd creativity, activity, service (CAS); and the extended essay (EE).  Students completing all components are eligible to earn an IB diploma, a distinction of prestige recognized by competitive universities in the United States and world-wide.

West High School's IB Career-related Programme (CP), authorized in 2020, offers students the option of multiple career-related studies aligned with our 865 Academies pathways. The CP is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique program addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education, leading to further/higher education, apprenticeships, or employment. IB CP students identify a career-related study, and then undertake a minimum of two related IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses and a core consisting of four components: a two-year personal and professional skills course; 50 hours of independent service learning and language development, and a reflective project. Students completing all components are eligible to earn an IB certificate, a distinction of prestige recognized by competitive universities in the United States and world-wide.
