International Baccalaureate Explained
What is IB?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a comprehensive, rigorous program of advanced studies that demands the best from motivated students. IB students study a broad spectrum of subjects and engage in research and experiential learning through school, community and international activities. In the forty years since its founding, the IB Diploma Programme has become a symbol of academic integrity and intellectual promise, recognized by leading universities in the United States and throughout the world.
West High School's IB Diploma Programme, authorized in 2011, aims to provide a balanced education, facilitate geographic mobility, and promote international understanding through a shared academic experience. Our IB exam results compare favorably to other IB World Schools and our students are widely accepted at competitive universities across the United States.
Students not zoned for West High School are able to apply for a "Program of Study" transfer. You no longer need to use the "magnet transfer" application for West High School. Please contact Shannon Siebe for more information regarding the transfer process.International Baccalaureate Programme Statistics- 2018-1938 11th graders are currently pursuing the full diploma48 12th graders are currently pursuing the full diploma.188 WHS students are registered to take one or more IB exams in May 2019International Baccalaureate Programme Statistics- 201862% of Diploma Candidates earned the IB Diploma (28 out of 45)262 IB certificates were earned in 2018.The class of 2018 had 45 Diploma Candidates and 134 Certificate students.589 IB exams were given in 2018.The Class of 2018 earned $10 million in scholarshipsInternational Baccalaureate Programme Statistics- 201750% of Diploma Candidates earned the IB Diploma (13 out of 26)277 IB certificates were earned in 2017.The class of 2017 had 26 Diploma Candidates and 122 Certificate students.520 IB exams were given in 2017.The Class of 2017 earned $8.8 million in scholarshipsInternational Baccalaureate Programme Statistics- 201677% of Diploma Candidates earned the IB Diploma (20 out of 26)143 Certificates were earned in 2016.The class of 2016 had 26 Diploma Candidates and 113 Certificate students.419 IB exams were given in 2016.The Class of 2016 earned over $9 million in scholarshipsInternational Baccalaureate Programme Statistics- 201574% of Diploma Candidates earned the IB Diploma (14 out of 19)107 Certificates were earned in 2015.The class of 2015 had 19 Diploma Candidates and 85 Certificate students.277 IB exams were given in 2015.The Class of 2015 earned over $9 million in scholarships.
