HVES does not have a school-specific summer reading program; however, we do encourage students to participate in some of the wonderful free summer reading programs and activities that are available.
Knox County Public Library (KCPL)

Scholastic Home Base
Visit the summer zone at Scholastic Home Base. This site is a completely free digital destination which offers stories, characters, games, and a community of readers. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7.
Barnes & Noble Summer Reading
Earn a free book from Barnes & Noble! Pick up a copy of the reading journal at your local Barnes & Noble (or print a copy in English or Spanish). Read 8 books, fill out the reading journal and turn it in at your local Barnes & Noble book store between July 1 and August 31. This program is for rising 1st through 6th grade students.
