Hardin Valley Elementary opened its doors in August of 2000 with 1 administrator, 30 teachers, and about 550 students. We were the first of the Hardin Valley schools to open. Our first principal chose the Hawk as our mascot because of all the hawks in our area. Our original school colors were red and gold.

With the growth of our valley, and the addition of Mill Creek Elementary, our school currently has 3 administrators, 48 classroom teachers and just over 900 students. We have been joined by a middle and high school all serving the Hardin Valley community.  Our school colors have been changed to navy blue and light blue to unite our 3 Hardin Valley schools. We are proud of our school’s achievement, growth, and cutting-edge programs.

While our school is looking toward the future of all of our students, it is rooted in the rich history of Hardin Valley. We are the proud custodians of the original Hardin Valley School bell. What follows is the history of our school bell:

The bell came from the old Hardin Valley School located about two miles west of our current school at the corner of Hardin Valley Road and Marietta Church Road. The old school was built in 1931 and during the 1940’s, one old-timer remembers “the bell was rung to call the little children in from the playground each day.”

On April 14, 1978, the old school burned down and the 175 students there were transferred to Solway and later Karns to attend school. The only things salvaged from the fire were the bell and the flagpole. The bell was stored for 22 years until the new school, our school, was completed in 2000. The flagpole was given to the Fire Hall where it still used today.
