Welcome to the Powell High School Counseling Department. The guidance department is where enrollment, withdrawals, scheduling, grades and much more takes place. We have four counselors all divided by grade level, and one college and career counselor that will be happy to assist you and our students in any way possible.

*Early grads, your senior early exit form is due no later than Dec. 20th in Guidance. Don't forget your post-secondary meeting with Mrs. Taylor and your clearance signatures before turning them in.

    • As we approach fall, the State of Tennessee recognizes the importance of post-secondary education. In regards, they deem September 25th-29th as College App Week, across the state. We here at Powell High School want to continue to push the importance of all graduates having a post-secondary plan. Powell High School will join in with the State of Tennessee to celebrate College App Week. We will be holding first Tailgate Kick-off Celebration for College App Week here at Powell High School. This will take place during the school day on September 29th. The Guidance Department hopes students will see it as a fun way to show the importance of post-secondary education. During this week we will encourage all seniors to apply for a post-secondary institution. We will be holding a contest between all senior advisorys. Whichever senior advisory wins, each student in that advisory will win a free single prom ticket. Most colleges discount, if not make applications free during College App Week. Powell High School goal is to have 100% application rate for post-seconday for the 2017/2018 school year.

The ACT test scores are very important for college admission and scholarships!!!  I know it is a hard exam, but if you do not achieve the score you desire then please retake it as many times as you feel necessary to get that desired score!!  Some scholarships start at a composite score of 24-26, but many more are available for scores of 28+.  We have prep books in the guidance office, there are websites that offer helpful tips (google can be your best friend), or there are tutoring courses available for a fee.  Some colleges superscore, but most scholarship opportunities do not, also, some of those scholarships have a December 1st cut off date.  So, give it all you've got, and as soon as possible!!  Below is the new ACT schedule:
