Excellence for Every Child
Go Golden and PTA are partnering for the fifth annual toiletry collection drive. From Monday, August 20th until Tuesday, September 5th, Sequoyah families are invited to participate in the collection of toiletry items, which will benefit children in Knox County Schools. Each grade level has an assigned item (see below). If you would like to participate, please send in your donated item(s) to your child’s classroom starting August 20th, which will house a Go Golden collection bucket.
Kindergarten: Toothbrush (individually packaged) First Grade: Toothpaste
Second Grade: Bar Soap
Third Grade: Shampoo
Fourth Grade: Ethnic Varieties Hair Combs / Hair Brush
Fifth Grade: Deodorant
*Please no trial sizes or jumbo sizes. It helps if items are individually packaged.
Sequoyah Third Graders will extend helping hands through service learning. Students in Third Grade will work with teachers to collect donated items from the collection buckets located in each classroom, as well as keep a running record of the total number of items collected.
On Tuesday, September 4th, Third Grade Encore class time will be utilized as a hands-on act of service opportunity, as the students make a final tally of donations and make "toiletry kits" comprised of the different items collected.
On Wednesday, September 5th, our entire student body will gather in the gym for a special assembly to kick off Go Golden and to celebrate the items collected. Representatives from the receiving schools will be in attendance to celebrate a job well done. This year’s assembly will highlight the 2018-19 Go Golden theme ”Launching Your Future: Begin with Wonder. Seek to Know. Take a Chance. Make It Happen”. The ultimate goal is that our student body will learn to extend kindness by showing generosity to others.
