• National Honor Society serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Note: You or your parents might receive an invitation to join an organization called the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)- this is NOT the same as the National Honor Society, and is NOT affiliated with our school. NSHSS works with "educational organizations" to locate students, but neither HVA nor Knox County Schools are educational organizations that work with NSHSS or provide any information to that organization.

The NHS New Member Ceremony is Tuesday, March 22; it begins at 6:00 p.m. and new inductees should be here at 5:30 p.m. You will be seated in the auditorium in alphabetical order. NOTE- this is a date change from the original schedule (which was March 31).

Community Service

  • Each member is responsible for earning community service hours through service to the community, whether through school service projects or individual service through other clubs, churches, or organizations with whom they are affiliated.
Use this form to submit community service hours:
Juniors should complete 25 hours of community service (between June 1 of the year prior to sophomore year and complete them by March 11, 2022).
Seniors should complete 15 hours of community service (between March 15, 2021 and April 1, 2022).

    Please Note:

When deciding if an activity qualifies as community service, be aware that if any activity or experience is part of an earned high school credit (such as ACTS, Peer Tutoring, Teaching as a Profession, or a Health Science course), the activity does not qualify as activity for community service
