NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
-
National Honor Society serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Requirements:
Membership in National Honor Society is open to high school juniors and seniors (with specific GPA requirements) for initial consideration. Current juniors will be sent an invitation via school email with an application. The NHS application portal will close on October 23rd at 3:30pm. Applications will be reviewed from the leadership stadf and students will receive confirmation of membership on October 28th.
NOTE: Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (from middle school) does not transfer to high school National Honor Society.
National Honor Society Meetings will take place during Study Hall on September 25 (current senior members only), October 30 (seniors and new members) and November 11th. Spring dates will be released at a later date.
National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be in the Spring and open to individuals that complete the requirements and a formal invitation.

- Seniors (Class of 2025)
- Seniors who have not been initiated as a member will need to complete 25 hours of community service (between June 1 of the year prior to sophomore year and complete them by March, 2025)
- Seniors that are current NHS members that were initiated April 2024, will complete 15 hours of community service (between March 23, 2024 and March, 2025).
All students will turn in community service hours to the main counseling office. Click here for the community service form. Please have this form signed and returned to have hours accounted for.
Please Note:When deciding if an activity qualifies as community service, be aware that if any activity or experience is part of an earned high school credit (such as ACTS, Peer Tutoring, Teaching as a Profession, or a Health Science course), the activity does not qualify as an activity for community service. If you have questions about community service, please email Mrs. Sanford at courtney.sanford2@knoxschools.org
- Juniors (Class of 2026)
Important Note
-
Note: You or your parents might receive an invitation to join an organization called the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)- this is NOT the same as the National Honor Society, and is NOT affiliated with our school. NSHSS works with "educational organizations" to locate students, but neither HVA nor Knox County Schools are educational organizations that work with NSHSS or provide any information to that organization.
