NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

  • National Honor Society serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

    Interested in joining NHS?

Students with a cumulative 3.5 unweighted GPA or higher:  In the fall of your junior year (usually mid September), you will receive an email to your Knox County Schools email address with an invitation to APPLY for membership in the Hawk Chapter of the National Honor Society. This email is not an acknowledgement of your membership; it is only an invitation to APPLY to be considered for membership.

If you are a senior, are not a member of NHS, and have a cumulative 3.5 unweighted GPA or higher: In the fall of your senior year (usually mid September),  Mrs. Graham will send out information to your Knox County Schools email address with an invitation to APPLY for membership in the Hawk Chapter of the National Honor Society. This email is not an acknowledgement of your membership; it is only an invitation to APPLY to be considered for membership.

     To be eligible for membership:

    • The candidate must be a member of the junior or senior class.
    • Candidates must have been in attendance at Hardin Valley Academy the equivalent of one semester. Transfer students may have this requirement waived if proper recommendation or verification from previous principal or chapter advisor is provided.
    • Candidates must have a cumulative unweighted average of at least a 3.5 at the time of selection.
    • Candidates shall be evaluated on their service, leadership, and character.
    • A student’s disciplinary records shall be reviewed as part of the selection process.

After you complete the application by the deadline, you will receive notice of the decision of the NHS faculty selection committee on your membership. Please check your KCS email as this is the ONLY way NHS will communciate with you in regards to membership.

Note: You or your parents might receive an invitation to join an organization called the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)- this is NOT the same as the National Honor Society, and is NOT affiliated with our school. NSHSS works with "educational organizations" to locate students, but neither HVA nor Knox County Schools are educational organizations that work with NSHSS or provide any information to that organization.
