NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
National Honor Society serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Class of 2021 (those invited to join NHS during the 2019-2020 school year):
- The Virtual induction is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Details will be sent out via email the day of the event on how to join the virtual event.
- One volunteer focus of NHS is tutoring. On Tuesdays and Thursday 7:40 - 8:20 in the library, we provide tutoring support for athletes. Please arrive by 7:35 in the library.
- Be thinking about food pantries in the HVA area we could support, and email Mrs. Graham with ideas. This is another way we can support our community. We will discuss this during our first meeting.
- Dues are payable now, and should be paid by December 31, 2020.
Please note: for the 2020-2021 school year these community service hours are reduced to 5 hours due to COVID-19. Only 5 hours of community service is required for membership in the Hawk Chapter of National Honor Society for the 2020-2021 school year. The deadline to complete these 5 hours is March March 12, 2021.
Volunteer hours should be completed between June 1, 2020 and March 12, 2021.
For Juniors and Seniors, these 5 hours of community service hours must be completed by March 12, 2021. These community service hours must be submitted electronically by the March 12, 2021 deadline.
Complete the online google form, and also print the community service completion form (turn a copy into Mrs. Graham). The Executive Committee will reconcile the two to confirm your hours are updated. Online google form is here: https://forms.gle/7id1mwQUj67paA2e7
Annual dues are $15 and are payable by the March 12, 2021 deadline. Online payments are encouraged.
Seniors members of the National Honor Society will wear a NHS stole at graduation. More information about the NHS Stole will be placed here.
Candidates eligible for election to the chapter must be juniors or seniors, and must have a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0. Upon meeting the grade level, attendance, and GPA standard requirements, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, and character.
High School Juniors with an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher will be sent an email (through their school mail) with a link to the NHS application. The email will be emailed by September 25, 2020. Students must complete the online application by October 2 and will be notified of acceptance into membership by October 9, 2020 (via school email).
An active member of NHS who transfers from HVA will be given a letter signed by the principal or chapter adviser indicating the status of his or her membershup level. An active member of NHS who transfers to HVA will be automatically accepted for membership in this chapter.
Chapter members are required to complete 25 hours of community service as juniors and ten community service hours as seniors. PLEASE SEE above as required hours are now 5 for both juniors and seniors.
