Flight Yearbook

  • Flight is a nationally award-winning yearbook. Membership on the yearbook staff is by application only. Students selected to be on staff are enrolled in journalism for both the fall and spring semesters.

SUMMER DELIVERY

  • The Flight yearbook is a true yearbook. The staff covers each moment of the year, from the first day until graduation. That means all spring sports and events, including prom and graduation, are included. It also means that Flight yearbooks are given out in the summer, at Valleypalooza, rather than the spring.

THEMES

  • + 2020 (vol. 12): "Visionary" chronicled the history-making year that was cut short by Covid-19.

+ 2019 (vol. 11): "Out of the Blue" focused on what it means to be a Hawk and on the explosive growth in Hardin Valley.

+ 2018 (vol. 10): "X" marked the spot, or in this case, the theme, of our special tenth anniversary edition of Flight.

+ 2017 (vol. 9): "Illuminate" shined a light on the inside story of all things HVA.

+ 2016 (vol. 8): "You are here" showcased what it meant to be a Hawk and what life in the Valley was really like.

+ 2015 (vol. 7): “Outspoken” featured hundreds of quotes from students and explained how the student body vocalized and mobilized.

+ 2014 (vol. 6): "Connections" used a running series of photos and arrows to show unusual connections between hundreds of students.

+ 2013 (vol. 5): "Archive" had a vintage, scrapbook look. Sections each had an "-ive" name, a nod to the fact that this was volume five.

+ 2012 (vol. 4): "All" celebrated the first graduating class to attend "all" four years. Almost 900 students were photographed holding page numbers in an attempt to feature all 1,800+ students.

+ 2011 (vol. 3): "Changing Times" was named for the new schedule, complete with 7:00 classes, enrichment, and early dismissal. The book also grew again, to its current size of 352 pages.

+ 2010 (vol. 2): “More” was named for the 500 more students enrolled and the first-ever senior class. More students meant more pages…72 more to be exact, bringing the total to 304.

+ 2009 (vol. 1): "First Flight" captured all of the firsts of the inaugural school year, from the ribbon-cutting in August until school was out in May, in 232 pages.
