Excellence for Every Child
Good Afternoon Hornet Families,
This is Mr. Watson, Principal of Carter Middle School, and I hope you are having a great weekend. The Back to School Dance last Friday night was a big success. Students seemed to enjoy themselves and have a good time.
Tomorrow, Monday, August 20th is Picture Day at Carter Middle School. Picture forms went home two weeks ago, but if needed we have extra forms in the main office. Make sure to dress nice and look good as these pictures will be used for the yearbook.
We will start deploying iPads at the end of this week. Students will only get an iPad if their paperwork has been returned completed correctly and the with their parent/guardian have attended an iPad training. If you have not had the iPad training, then it will be offered this Tuesday, August 21st at 6 P.M. in the CMS Library. This is the same training we did at 6th grade orientation and Open House, so if you attended those with your student then you are good. Most 7th and 8th grade parents had this training over the last two years, so you are good as well. However, if you have a new student at CMS, then you need to have the training with that student. We will start deployment with 8th grade on August 23rd and 24th. The Seventh grade will receive their iPads on August 27 and 28th and we will finish up with 6th grade on August 30th and 31st. We will do all deployments during the school day. It is important for your child to get an iPad for instructional reasons. If you do not want them carrying the iPad back and forth to school, then they can be day users in which they store their iPads at school. This year students will need to get their own charger for the iPad. We will be selling used chargers for $5.00 and new chargers for $15.00, if you do not have one already at home that will fit it. Students should have their iPad charged for school each day and carry their iPad to every class. Students will not have a wireless data plan this year. We are also setting the iPads this year to limit access to certain content and they will not be able to download apps unless it goes through the school. The iPads are an instructional device, not a toy.
I hope you have a wonderful week and thank you for your continued support of Carter Middle School. Go Hornets!
