In order to help prepare students to be lifelong learners and responsible, caring citizens, Farragut Primary will provide a comprehensive school counseling program that will assist all students in the development of personal, social, career, and school success skills.

Every student at Farragut Primary School will acquire the knowledge and skills, career direction, and personal / social balance to reach his or her fullest potential as a responsible, caring citizen.

We believe that all children are capable of learning if they’re supported and encouraged to do their very best.
We believe that education is a responsibility shared by students, parents, staff, and the community, and should be based on an atmosphere of mutual respect.
We believe that emotional well-being is a pre-requisite to achieving one’s potential and that Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an indirect support for academic and career success.
We believe that the school counseling program should be both comprehensive and developmental in nature and should include guidance curriculum, small group instruction, individual planning, responsive services, and system support.
Believing that these are critical life and educational skills, we will promote the following:  an understanding of and respect for self and others; problem-solving and decision-making; emotional regulation skills; skills for learning; and the influence of academic habits on career success.
We believe that counselors should follow the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) code of ethics.

We believe that counselors should participate in ongoing professional development in order to sharpen their skills and knowledge and to maintain a quality school counseling program.

***School counseling programs in Tennessee have always played an important role in the educational process for students.

School counselors work with students, families, communities, faculties and staff to address issues that have a substantial impact

on student academic, personal/social and career development. Wherever counselors serve, be it in rural,

urban or suburban areas, they strive to meet the needs of all students.***
