Student and Family Communication
Educators at Richard Yoakley School strive to create a positive school culture and environment for students daily. The PBIS Rewards App will be used to communicate positive interactions, behavioral trends, and other daily activities with students and families.
What is PBIS – a Definition
In 1997, an amendment of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) included the language, “Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports,” which described methods used to identify and support desired behaviors in the school setting.
The educational research community has been developing and studying Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) ever since. PBIS seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior schoolwide through the encouragement of positive behaviors.
PBIS REWARDS App Activation
In order to create a Family Portal account, you will need the student's access code—which you should get in a letter from the school. Once you have this information, the application will guide you through activation steps.
Note: Anyone who receives an access code for a student can create an account for themselves using a unique email address. That means parents/guardians and the student will go through the same process (outlined below) to create an account. They use the same access code but enter their own email addresses and set their own passwords. Families can download the PBIS Rewards Family app from the Google Play, Apple, or Amazon app store.
The video below is a short introductory overview for users who are new to PBIS Rewards.
