Good Afternoon Carter Middle School Families,

This is Mr. Watson, Principal of Carter Middle School, and I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Easter Sunday.  Don’t forget that tomorrow, Monday April 22, 2019 is a Teacher In-service Day and students are out of school.   Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 23rd.

It is state testing time in Tennessee!  This week April 23rd through April 26th the students will take the remainder of the TN Ready Tests that are on paper.  This is the schedule of tests for this week.     Tuesday, April 23rd- ELA Part 2 and Math Part 1; Wednesday, April 24th- Math Part 2 and Math Part 3; Thursday, April 25th- ELA Part 3 and Part 4; and Friday, April 26th- Social studies Part 1 and Part 2.   We will start testing each morning at 8:30 am and be finished by 11 am. Students have to take the tests for each subject in order and if they leave in the middle of a sub-part, then their score is nullified for that subject.  It is important that students are on time to school each day and they stay the entire testing time, so they are on schedule and that their test will not be nullified.  For this week please try to move appointments to the afternoon or to at least after 11 am, so students can complete their tests before leaving.  The PTSA is going to provide a treat each day for the students that test that day.   We want students to do their best and to demonstrate what they have learned this year.  On Friday afternoon, we will have a special Cruze Farm Ice Cream treat for students that have not missed a day of testing for this week and tried their best!  Everyone has worked super hard to get ready for this moment and now is the time to shine!

YOKE will meet Tuesday night at 7 pm in the Carter Middle School Gym.

Carter Middle School will host our 5th grade students and parents this Thursday,
April 25th from 5:30 to 7:30.  If you know a 5th grader that will be coming to Carter Middle school next year, then make sure they know to come.  There will be tours for parents and students, club booths set up, Related Arts registration, and a special gift for each 5th grader that attends.  Tours will be form 5:30 to 6:30, with a general assembly in the gym at 6:30.

Cheerleading try-outs for the Carter Middle School cheerleading team will be Thursday, May 9th.  There will be a mandatory clinic on Monday, May 6th and Wednesday, May 8th to teach the routine for the try-out.  Each student trying out must have a current physical dated after March 1st.    Students interested in trying out need to pick up a packet from Mrs. Mays.

Each grade level has a field trip coming up in May and those permission slips have been sent home and need to be returned.  At this point in the school year all payments to the school need to be cash or you can go online and pay, but we can no longer take checks.

Tutoring is offered every morning from 7:30 am to 8 am and is offered in the afternoons on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Check out the school website for schedule or call the front office.

Please go on the school website to find the latest edition of the school newsletter, The Carter Buzz, for more information and a detailed calendar for April.

Thank you for your continued support of Carter Middle School and Go Hornets!

     Thanks,

    Mr. Watson
