The Tennessee Department of Education announced that 176 schools across the state were chosen for the second cohort of trauma-informed schools. These schools are recognized for emphasizing teaching strategies that recognize the role trauma can play in students' lives. Three schools were chosen to be in this cohort from Knox County: Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy, Adrian Burnett Elementary School and Vine Middle Magnet School.
By applying, we have committed to a two-year development process with the state. Educators at Adrian Burnett will receive training and we will receive resources as we implement trauma-informed strategies. This is an exciting opportunity for us to really work to ensure our students feel safe and loved in our school building. We know that in order to learn, both of those need to be characteristics of each classroom.
As we learn and grow throughout this process, we will keep families informed. Let us know if you have any questions!
