    Erin's Law

The state of Tennessee recognizes the “Erin’s Law” requirement that all public schools in each state implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program. Feel free to view the video for yourself by using the link below.

We are aware that abuse can be a sensitive topic and can cause distress. If your child/children need assistance, please reach out to one of the school counselors. Referrals are available on the school counseling Canvas page. Resources for support are also found at the end of the presentation.

    7th & 8th grade parents:

Over the course of the last several weeks, Mrs. Williamson, one of the school counselors,  has met with all 7th and 8th graders during their social studies classes. During this time she worked with students to establish accounts on the Planning Your Dreams. org website. As part of the process, the students took interest and skills assessments to help them identify potential post secondary  and career interests and plans. Please follow up with your student and have them log in to the program and show you their results. There is a wealth of helpful information available to students through their accounts.  Please go to planningyourdreams.org and have your student log in using their Knox County log in and password to help them continue to explore and use all the valuable information offered through their accounts.

What is a school Counselor?

At Powell Middle School, the School Counseling Department is committed to supporting our students in their academic development, social and emotional development, and college and career readiness. The focus of the school counseling program is to help students be academically prepared for secondary and post-secondary education, to be well-adjusted members of society, to become life-long learners, and to become productive citizens.  Counselors are involved in many aspects of student support including individual and group counseling, academic planning and advising, and career exploration.  If you have questions regarding these items or your student at PMS, we are happy to speak with you.   Please call the front office at 865-938-9008 and ask for your student's counselor or e-mail from the links provided. Mrs. Chopin serves 6th and 7th grades, and Mrs. Williamson works with 7th and 8th grades.
