KINDNESS MATTERS - Chilhowee Eagles!
Feb 12-16th, 2018 is Kindness Week...I am excited about Kindness Week and hope that our students are too! Above you can see our week schedule for spirit days for kindness week and our checklist of kindness week challenges. Each student is asked to try and complete as many acts of kindness from the check list that they can either at home or at school. At the end of the week or on next Monday, I ask that they return their completed checklist with with their name and teachers name on it and give it to their teacher to be put in my box. I will have a drawing for prizes next Thursday Feb. 22nd. Even though we are more focused on kindness this week, our students are encourage to think of and to do acts of kindness everyday. I encourage you to talk with your student about how they can do this, be sure to discuss that these are simple things and do not cost anything. A smile or a hello can be seen as an act of kindness especially for those who may not have a lot of friends.Current Guidance classes:Currently students are learning about Healthy Touch, Good Boundaries, and Staying safe. Our students through guidance classes will be viewing a video called "Healthy Touch, Good Boundaries, Safe Kids" by rising star education. Letters are going home with students, after they have had the lesson, with the website information for parents to access. www.risingstareducation.comOther information:Our students and staff will be participating in the new "House" system this year. Each teacher and student will belong to one of six houses based on the six pillars of character; Caring (RED), Trustworthiness (BLUE), Respect (YELLOW/GOLD), Responsibility (GREEN), Fairness (ORANGE), and Citizenship (PURPLE). We want our students to believe and achieve knowing, "If it's to be, it's up to me," and that we are effected and effect others with the behaviors/attitudes we display daily. As part of Charcater Counts we are responsibile for what we say and do. A motto that I and other staff will reference this year is the idea of "Ubuntu: I am, because we are."Please encourage your student to take part in all the extra fun things planned. When students show good character such as helping others, being respectful, or responsibile they are able to earn points for their house. Students then are able to earn house rewards and these can vary throughout the year and may include but not limited to extra recess, house dance party, PBIS store, extra privilages such as winning house gets a hat day or pajama day, etc. As we continue to have students be recognized for their positive behaviors, we will continue with our monthly "Character Counts Awards" for students who have went above and beyond to show he or she is "Respectful, Responsible, and Safe" or demonstrated one or more of the character counts pillars. Their picture along with a description of how they earned the award will be displayed within the school. As part of the school counseling program I will continue to provide academic, career, and personal/social activities and lessons throughout the year via guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling. Also the school counseling program will include fun things your child may or may not want to participate in such as Unity Day (Oct 25), Kindness Week (Feb 12-16), Career (TBA), and house days (where students wear house colors etc.). If you are interested in helping with any of these please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. please be aware that I will be at three schools this year. I will be at Chilhowee on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am at Sunnyview Primary on Weds and Fridays and at Farragut Intermediate on mondays only. Email is always the best way to reach me.As we grow and learn throughout the year, please encourage students to show interest and effort in all areas . I am sure they will have an opportunity for one or more of our incentives. We want to continue our "KINDNESS Matters!" campaign and support and encourage our students to be tolerant of differences, express kindness and respect to all, and always help others in our school and community anyway we can everyday. It's the small things that add up to make our students feel successful, loved, appreciated, and part of our school and community. Remember small things add up to big successes for our students! Remember, keep working towards your goals and "Never let it rest, til the good is better, and the better is best!"Remember...Character Counts!Keep a look out for more news and updates from your school counselor!
