    HMS Counseling Department Mission:

Holston Middle School’s counseling program strives to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, and the community to meet the individualized academic, emotional, and social needs of each student. Our goal is to instill a desire for learning within an atmosphere that respects all cultures, values, and perspectives. We believe that through this goal, we have the ability to help each student achieve the highest level of excellence.

    HMS Counseling Department Vision Statement:

School counselors help develop an environment where students can explore their own pathways through social/emotional, academic and career skills. As a school counselor it is our duty to create a safe, warm, and welcoming environment that allows students to feel empowered to reach their fullest potential.  A school counselor focuses and works with the whole child to help students learn appropriate skills to be respectful to not only themselves but others.  The school counselor is determined and committed to creating a foundation where students are able to regulate their emotions and wellbeing in order to become healthy, responsible, lifelong learners in a society that is constantly changing.

    HMS Counseling Department Beliefs:

    • Help to promote unity among students, faculty, staff and parents within a school community.
    • Are ethically and culturally aware keeping the needs of students in mind when planning and implementing a program.
