Mr. Smith is married to his wife, Jenny who is a professor at Roane State Community College. They have a five year-old daughter named Sloan who likes to dance and do gymnastics. Mr. Smith has been in education for six years. Previously, Mr. Smith worked in retail management for ten years. Mr. Smith has a Masters of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University, a Masters in Arts of Teaching from Tusculum University, an Educational Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education from Lincoln Memorial University. In his free time, Mr. Smith enjoys camping and kayaking, grilling and cooking, and dining out.
Mr. Steve Killian - Class of 2023 Assistant Principal
Mrs. Cara Vaughn - Class of 2022 Assistant Principal
Mrs. Cara Vaughn serves as the assistant principal for the class of 2022. Mrs. Vaughn's career began as a middle school science teacher. She and her family moved to Knoxville in 2013 where she joined the BHS team as a teacher in the science department. Mrs. Vaughn has most recently worked as an administrator at Bearden High School where she supported students and teachers in a variety of capacities.
Mrs. Vaughn is a middle Tennessee native, who graduated from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, TN. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University in secondary education.

Mrs. Charlene Lewis - Class of 2021 Assistant Principal

Dr. Charlene Lewis serves as the assistant principal for the class of 2021. Dr. Lewis’ career began as a high school English teacher at Hamilton County Schools in Chattanooga, TN. She and her family moved back to Knoxville where she worked as a TAP Master Teacher before she worked as an assistant principal at South Doyle High School. Dr. Lewis has most recently worked as an assistant principal at Northwest Middle School.
Dr. Lewis is a native of Knoxville, TN, who graduated from Austin-East High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University in Mass Communications. She earned a Master of Education (Secondary Education) and a Master of Education (School Leadership) from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Most recently she earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Tennessee.
