School-Parent Compact
Kelley Volunteer Academy, and the parents of students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title 1, Part A of the Elementary and sEcondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire schools staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve Tennessee's high standards. This school-parent compact is in effect.
School ResponsibilitiesKelley Volunteer Academy faculty and staff understand the importance of the school experience and will:
- Provide a high quality curriculum based on the state of Tennessee program of study.
- Provide a high quality curriculum and instructional practices in a positive, supportive, and effective learning environment.
- Provide many opportunities for parents to be involved.
- Provide a mutually respectful setting.
- Provide parents with consistent updates on student progress via phone, computer, grade reports, Aspen Parent Portal, meetings, etc.
- Provide parents with the opportunity to participate in their child's educational program.
Parent and Family ResponsibilitiesWe, as parents/guardians of Kelley Academy students, will support our children's learning in the following ways:
- Monitor and require regular school attendance.
- Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child's education
- Encourage and support my child's academic achievement
- Participate in school functions
- Keep positive, open communication with all classroom teachers
- Encourage a positive attitude regarding learning and achievement
Student ReponsibilitiesWe, as students will become an active partner in our own learning progress by doing the following:
- Come to school on time every day prepared and ready to learn
- Be responsibilty for your own learning
- Cooperate with teachers and staff
- Respect the rights of other students, faculity, and staff
- Ask for help when needed
- Study and read daily

Kelley Volunteer Academy is committed to providing an outstanding education for more than 88 students from all across Knox County. We are a non-traditional school that offers resources that help students reach their potential outside of a typical classroom.
