Dear Future Powell Middle School Family,

We at Powell Middle School are very excited about the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. To help smooth the transition to middle school, the Powell Middle School staff is inviting incoming students and their families to participate in some orientation activities:

Copper Ridge and Brickey 5th grade visit TBD

Powell Elementary 5th grade visit TBD

    Spring Parent Orientation – TBD

    Fall 6th Grade Picnic TBD

6th Grade Student Only Orientation Day TBD

Elementary School 5th grade visits: 5th grade students will visit Powell Middle school during the 1st part of their school day. While they are here, the 5th grade students will hear presentations, tour the school in small groups led by current 7th grade students, and have a small snack before returning to their school for lunch. The 5th grade students will also choose their elective related arts class for next year. Their choices are band, chorus, or advanced art. All incoming students must choose one of these classes as part of their schedule. For any student who plans to choose advanced art, we ask that you pick an alternative class of band or chorus, as advanced art classes can take fewer students in them. REQUESTING A CLASS DOES NOT GUARANTEE PLACEMENT IN THAT CLASS.

Spring Parent Orientation: The program will begin in the gym promptly at TBD. Attendees will hear a short presentation in the Powell Middle Gymnasium which will include performances by our band and chorus departments. You will then have the opportunity to explore the school, visit the art room for a student art show and have refreshments in the library hosted by our PTA.

6th Grade Panther Picnic: Families will have the opportunity to tour the school, meet their child’s teachers, and see their child’s homeroom before the 6th grade preview day.

6TH Grade Student Only Orientation Day: 6th grade students will report to the cafeteria by 8:30 and taken to their homerooms. Students will also be given a hard copy of their schedule on that day. In addition to class descriptions, teachers will explain the school schedule and expectations for student behavior. Students are released at 12:00.

If you have your Parent Portal #, which you can get at your elementary school, you will be able to access student schedules online on or around July 26. SCHEDULES WILL NOT BE MAILED HOME. If your child does not attend the 6th grade orientation on August 7, they can get their schedule on the first official day of school.

We look forward to meeting you and your child during one of these orientation activities. If you have any questions, please call the school at 938-9008.
