Principal's Message

  • Mrs. Baker accepted the position as principal at Carter Elementary in July of 2021 and is excited to continue our hard work in the 2022-2023 school year. In 2003 Mrs. Baker began her educational career as an English teacher at Maryville High School, where she taught for 5 years before moving to Middle Tennessee. There she taught middle school language arts for two years. Since returning to East Tennessee in 2010, she has served in Knox County as a middle and high school counselor and a middle school assistant principal before assuming the principal position at Pleasant Ridge Elementary in 2018. Mrs. Baker believes that every child deserves an excellent teacher and that teaching is the most important work, and these core values form the basis of her philosophy of education.

When she's not at school, Mrs. Baker enjoys reading, cooking, painting, drawing, gardening, kayaking, and walking her hound dog. She is married to Chris, a real estate appraiser, and they have two children: Mason, an 8th grader at West Valley Middle, and Merynn, a 2nd grader at Carter Elementary.
