Degrees and Certifications:

Dr. Cory A. Smith

I am excited to start my tenure as the principal of the new Hardin Valley Middle School. I have been a principal with Knox County schools at Rocky Hill Elementary for the past 11 years. I am originally from Maine where I was a special education teacher and a K-12 principal. My family moved to Knoxville in the summer of 2006. I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Special Education and my Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine. I completed my Educational Specialist and Doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership at Carson-Newman.

I am married with two children.  My son just graduated from high school and has moved back to Maine to play hockey. My daughter is a sophomore at HVA and plays lacrosse and hopes to one day be an anesthesiologist. My hobbies include camping with my family, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, motorcycle racing, and training my Chesapeake Bay Retriever.

I am looking forward to becoming part of the Hardin Valley community. The opportunity to open a new school and have all three schools working together to provide the best education for all students is a privilege I am eager to undertake.
