Pleasant Ridge Principal
Pleasant Ridge PrincipalAmelia Baker(865)594-1354
Mrs. Baker joined Pleasant Ridge in the fall of 2017 after serving five years as an assistant principal in two local middle schools. Her career began in 2003 as a high school English teacher, and since then she has served as a 7th grade reading teacher, a school counselor at the high school and middle school levels, and a TAP mentor teacher, working in six different schools across three districts. Originally from Maryville, Mrs. Baker has earned a Bachelor's Degree in English from Maryville College, a Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Tennessee, and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. She is wife to Chris and mom to Mason, a 4th grader, Rynn, a preschooler, and Sadie, the world's laziest hound dog. When she is not at Pleasant Ridge, she enjoys reading, hiking, kayaking, baking, drawing, and traveling.
Based on her experiences as the child of a single mother growing up in poverty and as a mom herself, Mrs. Baker's philosopy of education is simple: When it comes to teaching and learning, good enough...isn't. Every child deserves a great teacher. She believes wholeheartedly that teaching is the hardest profession in the world but also the best. Her job is to provide supports and remove obstacles so that teachers can do what is most important: take care of students' social-emotional needs first and inspire the joy of reading and learning so that children become independent thinkers and problem solvers.
