Love and Logic Tips:
Attendance matters:
Junior Counselor program:
Jr. Counselors are 4th and 5th grade students that assist Ms. Filtness with many of her school wide projects, help teach their class and school mindfulness, and mentor new students. They are students with great character and truly represent what it means to be hardworking, mindful, and considerate.
Our goals this year:
By May 15, 2021, Tier 2/3 students (as identified through PBIS, office referrals for class disruption and inappropriate physical contact, PIT Teams, S Teams and TCI calls) who visit The NEST 80% or more of their scheduled sessions will reduce their days on Level 2/3 by 20% when compared to previous marking period.
To reduce the percentage of chronically absent students from 12.5% to 11.5%.
Career and College Readiness Week:
If you are interested in speaking or volunteering for our Career and College Readiness Week please e-mail or call Ms. Filtness.
Classroom Guidance:
Here's a peek of what we are doing in our class lessons. Students will have a class lesson at least once a month.
For the 2022-2023 school year we are excited to be focusing on social/emotional skills like growth mindset, relationships, and mindfulness. We will use the Sanford Harmony curriculum to host regular class meet-ups.
K-2 - We are using a curriculum from The Responsive Counselor. This program focuses on cultivating strong classroom relationships between all students.
3rd - We are using a book-based curriculum to learn about perseverance, growth mindset, self esteem, test taking skills, and bullying prevention. Parents learn more here.
4th - We are using focusing on mindfulness using the Mind Up curriculum. Learn more here.
5th - We are fostering resilient learners using the Connected and Respected: Lessons from Resolving Conflict Creatively Program curriculum.
Scholastic Book Club:

Use Scholastic Book Clubs to order books now.
Here’s how: Choose books online at: scholastic.com/bookclubs

UTK HABIT:
We are excited to be partnered with the UTK H.A.B.I.T. Reading Paws program to help improve student literacy and self esteem. This amazing program allows therapy dogs to visit classrooms where students are able to read to them. Permission forms are sent home before a dog will visit the classroom. Learn more about the program here: https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/outreach/Pages/habit_home.
Mindful Mornings-
Mindfulness is being aware of yourself and your environment in the present moment. It is not about clearing your mind of all thoughts.
Mindfulness has been shown to improve emotional regulation, anxiety, anger, stress, and attention when done regularly.
Mindfulness exercises include breathing, body scan, heart beat awareness and posing.
