Here is the information about class lists that was sent home at the end of school last year. We will NOT post class lists outside of the school this year. Read below to see how you can find out your child's teacher using the Parent Portal or visit with us on August 5th for our first SNEAK PREVIEW NIGHT where you can quickly meet your child's teacher and see their new classroom. We will have our SNEAK PREVIEW NIGHT on August 5th from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.
As the new Executive Director of Elementary Education, I have spent the past year reviewing the practices and procedures of elementary schools in the Knox County Schools. As a former principal, I am aware of the excitement students and parents experience as they prepare for the upcoming school year. I realize it is important to communicate that information in a timely manner for the students, parents, and schools.
A priority for our district this year has been the safety and confidentiality of our students. As a district, we have made the decision not to continue the practice of posting teacher class lists outside the school buildings. Allowing public posting of class lists for anyone who wants to stop by the school and view, photograph, and/or post on social media is a practice that we believe has the potential to place students at unnecessary risk.
Beginning this school year, student schedules will be prepared by the individual schools and posted under the Published Reports section of the Family Portal website by August 1, 2016. Parents will then be able to view their child's schedule with the teacher assignment by logging into Parent Portal and viewing this information. Parents are also welcome to visit the schools to pick up their student's schedule anytime after August 1.
Schools will be open during the summer on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. — 12:00 noon. You are encouraged to attend the "Open House" or "Meet the Teacher" night at your child's school to visit your child's teacher and classroom.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and your part in helping to keep students safe in Knox County Schools. Best wishes for a safe and relaxing summer vacation.
Julie E. Thompson
