Preschool Programs
All KCS preschool children have a right to high-quality early education experiences which support healthy cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development. Our preschool teams are committed to providing students with learning experiences that prepare them for success regardless of cultural background, socio-economic status, native language, or learning challenges so all preschoolers can Thrive by Five!
Families may apply for any Knox County Preschool program including Blended Preschool, Voluntary PreK, Title 1 Preschool, and Transition Preschool using the preschool application. More information on each program can be found below in the Program Overview Table or on the specific program pages linked above.
Anyone applying for Voluntary PreK will be required to submit proof of income during the application process. Families who have completed a Title 1 or Voluntary PreK application should plan to attend the Preschool Round Up at their chosen school location.

KCS Preschool Application for the 2026-27 School Year
The KCS Preschool application for the 2026-27 school year is tentatively scheduled to be released on the afternoon of Friday, March 6, 2026. Please do not complete the current application if you are interested in next school year for your child.
Before beginning the application, please familiarize yourself with our four preschool options: Voluntary PreK, Title 1 PreK, Blended Preschool, and Transition Preschool. More information about each program can be found below. Please note, each program has different eligibility qualification criteria.
ALL applicants will be required to submit proof of residency (current KUB bill, mortgage statement, lease agreement, etc.) before submitting a 2026-27 application. Families applying for Voluntary PreK will also be asked to complete an income verification form during the application process.
Families will have the opportunity to choose up to six preschool options.

Preschool Programs Details
Early CHILD FIND
The Knox County Schools Early Child Find Department assesses children 3- to 5-years-old to determine their eligibility and need for special education services. These assessments may include parent interviews, observations, and child evaluations, focusing on areas such as vision, hearing, speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, cognitive/pre-academic abilities, social/emotional development, and adaptive skills.

READSHARE BOOKBUS
The ReadShare BookBus is part of Knox County Schools' Library Media Service. Launched in Fall 2025, the bus will visits all four standalone preschools and serves as an outdoor classroom.
Each visit follows a fun three-step routine: LISTEN to a story read by a certified librarian, LEARN through a short lesson connected to the story, and READ by choosing books from the bus library.
