Required Immunizations

Tennessee requires certain immunizations for children attending child care, pre-school, and K–12 schools to help protect the health of all students. These requirements follow the current vaccine schedule recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and are endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

To enroll in school, families must provide the Official Tennessee Immunization Certificate, which is available through local health departments and many medical providers across the state.

For full details, please refer to the Tennessee Department of Health Rules on school immunization requirements.

A summary of required immunizations by grade is provided below.

Medical or Religious Exemptions

Children with medical exemptions must provide documentation from their medical provider. Religious exemptions require a signed statement by the parent/guardian that vaccination(s) conflict with their religious tenets or practices.
