Knox County Schools Announces New Human Resources Chief

Knox County Schools has named Kelly Drummond as Executive Director of Human Resources, effective Sept. 26, 2016, the district announced today.

Drummond has more than 25 years of human resource management and training experience, most recently as Chief Human Resource and Administrative Officer for the Boys & Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley. She also serves as Executive Director for the Tennessee Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs and a Master Trainer with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

“The employees are our greatest asset,” Drummond said. “I am excited by Knox County Schools’ vision and values expressed in the strategic goal to become the best school system in the South. In the coming months, it is my hope and expectation that our HR team will build upon our efficiencies, emphasize superior customer service and improve our performance by focusing on recruiting, hiring and retaining the best staff.”

Prior to the Boys & Girls Club, Drummond worked with the Knoxville Police Department, the City of Knoxville Civil Service and the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have Kelly join our team at Knox County Schools,” Interim Superintendent Buzz Thomas said. “She has both the advanced training and hands-on experience to build a great talent pipeline for our school district.”

Drummond holds professional HR certifications from the Society Human Resource Management and the HR Certification Institute (CP-SHRM and PHR). Additionally, she has a master training certification from Boys & Girls Clubs of America through the International Institute for Facilitation.

Drummond also instructs SHRM certification classes at Roane State Community College and serves as a state commissioner with the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth. She will graduate in December with her Doctorate of Education from Lincoln Memorial University with a concentration in Human Resource Development. Her dissertation topic is “employee satisfaction.” Drummond holds a Master’s degree from Capella University in Organization and Management and a Bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University in Political Science.
