Celebration for Barney Thompson Scholarship Winners

A reception to celebrate the 2016 Barney Thompson Scholarship Winners

The Barney Thompson Scholarship program was initiated in 2009 to honor the memory of Barney Thompson, who taught and coached at South High School in the 1970s and served as the treasurer of the Partners in Education Advisory Board for 15 years. Since the scholarship’s inception, close to 100 Knox County graduating seniors have been awarded more than $40k. The 2016 scholarship recipients are listed below:

The Knox County Schools announced in February that Coldwell Banker Wallace & Wallace, Realtors® (CBWW) would be the new presenting sponsor of the Barney Thompson Scholarship program, by contributing $4,000 toward fifteen $500 scholarships this year. The remaining funds for the scholarships come from the Knox County Schools’ Dine Out for Education.
