Disparities in Educational Outcomes Task Force to Share Draft Recommendations

On Thursday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Vine Middle Magnet School Auditorium (1807 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue), the Disparities in Educational Outcomes (DEO) Task Force will share its draft recommendations and gather additional community input and feedback prior to finalization. The meeting is open to the public will begin with a general session followed by small group discussions.

In November 2014, Dr. Jim McIntyre, Superintendent of the Knox County Schools, convened the DEO Task Force, a group of business, community and faith-based stakeholders, to recommend strategies to address disproportions in academic achievement and discipline outcomes in the Knox County Schools that might be correlated with income, race, language and/or disability. In December 2015, Dr. McIntyre and the members of the DEO Task Force invited students, families, educators and community members to Austin-East Magnet High School Performing Arts Center to participate in a community meeting involving both general sessions and small group discussions to share opinions, triumphs and challenges with regard to their observations and personal experiences with disparities, discipline and education.

The recommendations to be presented by the DEO Task Force at the April 28 community meeting were drafted using the input, suggestions and opinions of those attending the December meeting.

The group sessions will stream live on knoxschools.org/kcstv and can be viewed live on Comcast cable channel 10 or AT&T U-verse channel 99.

Please note that two or more Board of Education members could be present.
