Barney Thompson Scholarship Celebrates New Sponsor

The Knox County Schools has announced that Coldwell Banker Wallace & Wallace, Realtors® (CBWW) will be the new presenting sponsor of the Barney Thompson Scholarship program, which has supported almost a decade of high school seniors. CBWW will contribute $4,000 toward fifteen $500 scholarships this year, with the remainder of money funded by the Knox County Schools’ Dine Out for Education.

The Barney Thompson Scholarship program was initiated in 2009 to honor the memory of Barney Thompson, who taught and coached at South High School in the 1970s. After a successful career in education and driven by his passion for students of the Knox County Schools, Thompson served as the treasurer of the Partners in Education Advisory Board for 15 years. Since the scholarship’s inception, close to 100 Knox County graduating seniors have been awarded more than $40k. Applications are now open for students to begin applying for the scholarship. Forms are available online at knoxschools.org/pie. A reception will be held on May 2nd to recognize all recipients of the scholarship.
