Retro Radio KCS and Falcon Radio 91.1 WKCS is proud to be a part of the 4th Annual High School Radio Day on April 22nd that Unites High School Radio Stations Nationwide

Retro Radio KCS is the Knox County Schools newest and only all streaming radio station broadcasting out of the Byington Solway Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center on the campus of Karns High School. For more information on Retro Radio and to listen, you can visit

This year, Retro Radio plans to help promote high school radio and also educate students on the dangers of texting and driving. During the school day at Karns High School, Retro Radio will be broadcasting live from the cafeteria from 11:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and signing students up for the “don’t text and drive” pledge.

Retro Radio KCS students will be simulcasting with Knox County Schools’ sister station 91.1fm WKCS located on the Fulton High School campus. This is an excellent opportunity for both schools to work together to promote High School Radio Day and the dangers of texting and driving.

High school radio stations in the United States will come together for one day of celebration on Wednesday, April 22 when the 4th Annual High School Radio Day will take place. Since there are so few high schools with radio stations, organizers hope that High School Radio Day (HSRD) will raise a greater awareness of high schools that are still broadcasting over the air and newer schools streaming online.

A website has been created to publicize the activities planned by participating stations: Schools can register their stations on that site. Also on the site are links to participating high schools with links to their websites and online streams of their programming; notable high school radio graduates; links to other high school stations nationwide; and a resource page with useful information for high school broadcasters.

For more information about High School Radio Day, contact Retro Radio KCS Station Manger Chris Wade at Karns High School or call (865) 693-3511. Also you can contact WKCS Station Manager Russell Mayes at Fulton High School (865) 594-1259.
