Students Take Art to the Streets

chalkwalk Students representing many schools in the Knox County Schools participated in the Dogwood Arts Festival’s Chalk Walk on April 11. These talented students used creativity and imagination to turn sidewalks in Krutch Park and Market Square into works of art. Awards for Best of Show, People’s Choice and others were presented on April 11 in 11 categories, and several student groups were named as winners, including teams from:
  • Sequoyah Elementary School
  • A.L. Lotts Elementary School
  • Vine Middle Magnet School
  • L&N STEM Academy National Honor Society
“Street painting” has roots in 16th Century Italy, where roving artists would support themselves from coins tossed onto their works of art painted on the streets. This is the seventh year for the Dogwood Arts Festival Chalk Walk. For more information, visit
