Community Celebrates Austin-East Magnet High School Progress

Community, teachers, parents, alumnae, students and others gathered at Austin-East Magnet High School on November 6 to celebrate the school’s significant academic progress. Benny Perry, principal, led the remarks and shared with the enthusiastic crowd historical perspective and current information about the school’s progress.

Academic progress at Austin-East Magnet High School includes the school being removed from any state accountability lists and earning Level 5, the highest level, on the Tennessee Value-added Assessment System for overall literacy, overall numeracy and combined literacy and numeracy in the 2013-14 school year.

Also participating in the celebration were Knox County Board of Education District 1 Representative Gloria Deathridge; Knox County Commission District 1 Representative Sam McKenzie; Knox County Schools Superintendent Jim McIntyre; and Austin-East Magnet High School Assistant Principal Jonathan East.
